Meet The Officers

Below you will find profiles of all the student and faculty officers involved in running and maintaining both the Student Organization for Reason and Science and the MSU Freethinkers.

Dr. Sunayan Acharya

Faculty Adviser, MSU SORS, MSU Freethinkers

Dr. Sunayan Acharya is the faculty advisor of both the MSU Freethinkers and SORS. He is a professor of finance at Murray State University.

Ben Shelby is the President of the Student Organization for Reason and Science. He has a BA in Music Education, and is currently studying Biology and minoring in Chemistry. Ben is also a big fan of Sam Harris.

Bryant Powell

Bryant Powell is the President of MSU Freethinkers. He is currently studying French and philosophy. He performs in theater and plays acoustic guitar. Bryant is also a member of the Murray State Academic Team.

Courtney Burden is the Vice-president of the Student Organization for Reason and Science. She is studying German.

Paige Tobye

Vice President, MSU Freethinkers

Paige Tobye is the Vice-president of MSU Freethinkers. She is studying Public Relations and minoring in Marketing. Paige enjoys Geocaching, cooking, and spending time with her animals.

Jessie Hedrick is the Secretary of the MSU Student Organization for Reason and Science. She is double-majoring in creative writing and TESOL and wants to join the Peace Corps.

Andrew Burden

Secretary, MSU Freethinkers

Andrew Burden is the secretary for the MSU Freethinkers. He studies Creative Writing (English) and German. Andrew is also a music critic and blogger.

Alex McTeague is the Treasurer for the Student Organization for Reason and Science. He is majoring math and physics and enjoys playing Magic the Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons.
